Home Staging to Sell your Home

March 26, 2019

Spring is known as a season of renewal. It can also be an excellent time to sell your property or to start preparing to put it on the market!

If you’re looking to sell your home quickly, consider doing some home staging. It’s a great way to clear your space of all the clutter and extra things you’ve accumulated over the years—which means fewer boxes to move. More importantly, it can also help you get offers faster!

Get things done

Mouldings you never ended up installing, missing curtain panels you never replaced, and those magic marker lines on the wall you still haven’t cleaned: procrastination is no longer acceptable!

First, clean all the little stains that seemed unimportant until now. Then, make an exhaustive list of what needs to be addressed by walking through each of the rooms in your home. Don’t forget to check the closets and cupboards! Also, be sure to examine the outside of your home and check the foundation, your yard, and everything in it.

Once you’ve finished compiling your list, sort the different tasks from the easiest to the most complicated. This will make it easier to determine what you can do yourself, and what will require professional help.

Become a minimalist

As previously mentioned, one of the best things you can do is sort out your things, separating belongings that are necessary from those that are no longer useful.

Potential buyers are more likely to fall in love with your property if it doesn’t look cluttered since they will get a better sense of each room’s actual dimensions.

By selling some of your furniture and other belongings you no longer need, you can use the money towards renovations, increasing the value of your home.

Take care of what you can’t see!

A certain amount of investment may be necessary if you want to sell your home at a good price. But it’ll be worth it in the long run!

Evaluate your heating and air conditioning systems. Don’t forget that just as a tasteful, modern décor is essential to selling your house, the state of your home’s systems and equipment also plays a capital role when it comes to real estate transactions.

Have your equipment checked by professionals:

  • Does anything need to be fixed?

  • Is any maintenance necessary?

  • Has your tank shifted?

  • Does your equipment require an upgrade?

  • The costs for this type of maintenance may seem high at first glance, but it can really help increase the value of your property!

Time for some cleaning

If you’re going the home staging route this spring, it goes without saying that it’s the perfect opportunity to do some major cleaning while you’re at it!

If you realize that a thorough cleaning of your home is too much work to tackle alone, set aside a budget to have professionals come and make your home sparkle.

If there are several people in your household, spring cleaning can be an excellent activity for spending time together while attacking an important task.

There is no doubt that a clean, orderly home will win you points with potential homebuyers!

Freshen up your décor

The most well-known part of home staging is likely the decorating portion. Updating your décor doesn’t mean that your current one was done in poor taste. It simply means that a few rooms could benefit from a lick of paint and furniture rearranging.

Neutral colours and hues are usually the best option when it comes to appealing to potential buyers.

As for furniture and decorations, favour minimalist and balanced combinations. For example, if you have a large living room with big windows, consider adding nice curtains to give the room some personality. Try to remember to leave them open to let the light in when people come to visit! As for the furniture, choose pieces that go well with the space without seeming overwhelming.

On the other hand, if your living room is small and doesn’t have many windows, try playing with colours and accessories to give it more depth. Add a three-seater couch or a loveseat and an armchair and leave it at that. Fewer objects, and more light, please!

Looking to sell? You can do it! All you need is a bit of home energy focused in the right place.
