The cold we’ve experienced over the last few days is proof winter comes back to visit every year, and the cold season is often icier and even more tempestuous than expected.
Different strategies are needed to help you save on heating while maintaining an Ultra-comfortable home. January has shown us that the two can go hand-in-hand.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you stay warm all winter long!
Proper insulation is key to a comfortable home. From inside the walls to door thresholds, it goes without saying that insulation requires the work of a qualified professional.
However, it’s possible to add a touch of comfort to your space by installing plastic film on the inside of your windows—including the ones on doors!
To keep your heating bill as low as possible, try making a list of the rooms that consume the most energy in your house.
Keep in mind the size and number of floors in your home by taking a few minutes to note which rooms you use the most. These rooms usually require more heating. This way, you can keep the thermostat lower in rooms that aren’t occupied as often.
Once again, windows play an important role when it comes to indoor comfort. When the afternoon sun makes its appearance, make sure to draw your two layers of curtains and let the natural light in to help warm the space.
In winter, forget cold meals and microwave cooking. Use your stove to its full potential instead! Who’s in the mood for gazpacho when it’s -35°C anyway? Using your stove will help heat up your kitchen which may allow you to lower the thermostat.
**Extra tip** Open your oven right after turning it off and let the heat fill up your kitchen.
Have you ever noticed how much heat emanates from the bathroom? The idea isn’t to stop using the fan during hot showers, but rather to leave the door open when you leave the room. The steam will help warm up the rooms close by.
Winter is the perfect season for wearing multiple layers of clothing. Not only does it make sense given the sub-zero temperatures, but it’s also an economical way to keep warm indoors and outdoors!
Choose pyjamas and long sleeve tops made from warm, stretchy fabrics. Also consider adding rugs to your home to keep your feet nice and toasty.
Of course, it’s important to heat your home enough to stay comfortable, but nothing is stopping you from dressing warmly to save a little bit, too!
